Before replacing the latch, check whether the stem wobble is caused by a worn latch, loose retaining screws, or a damaged hinge pin. If the latch is visibly worn or the locking action feels loose, continue with the replacement steps below.
Required Tools & Components
Remove Side Retaining Screws
Locate the small set screws positioned on the left and right sides of the folding latch bracket.

Drive Out the Hinge Pin
Align a thin metal pin punch with one end of the main hinge pin. Lightly tap with a mallet until the pin slides out.
| Component | Action / Reusability |
|---|---|
| Thin Metal Punch | Applies focused force on pin axis |
| Main Pin | Keep for reassembly (reusable) |

Install the Replacement Latch
Remove the old latch lever and align the new component inside the stem hinge bracket.

Secure Assembly & Verify Operation
Drive the hinge pin fully back into place until centered, then tighten the side set screws to secure the latch.

Post-Installation Inspection
- Thread Locking Compound: Apply a small drop of medium-strength blue threadlocker to set screws to prevent vibration loosening.
- Regular Inspection: Inspect side screws for tightness after the first 100 kilometers of riding.
- Pivot Lubrication: Apply a dry silicone lubricant spray to pivot points periodically to preserve smooth operation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ensure the punch rod is centered against the pin face. If stiff, apply penetrating lubricant and allow 2–3 minutes before tapping again gently.
The latch should engage firmly under moderate hand pressure without forcing, producing a crisp locking feel with zero stem wobble.
