JOYOR Riding Guide
A clear setup sequence for the compatible S5-series display: enter the menu, select a parameter, adjust its value and let the display save.
Check the setup after installing your kit
After fitting a matched speed-unlock controller and display to your JOYOR S5 series scooter, check the wheel diameter, speed-sensor magnet count and motor-drive signal percentage. Then confirm the start mode and initial response.
This guide applies to the compatible rectangular S5-series display with a separate M / + / − button module. Focus on P06, P07 and P15. Values that already match the kit requirements can be retained.
Production batches, firmware and motor upgrades can use different configurations. Identify the display actually installed on your scooter, using the display and controller version guide where needed.
Step 1: Enter the settings menu
Park the scooter securely, keep the throttle released and turn the power on. Photograph the existing values before adjusting them.
Long-press M to enter the parameter menu.
Once the menu is open:
- Use “+ / −” to switch between parameter items and locate P06, P07 or P15.
- Long-press M to select that parameter and enter value adjustment.
- Use “+” to increase the value and “−” to decrease it.
The same “+ / −” buttons have different jobs in these states: before selection they navigate between P items; after selection they change the selected value.
Step 2: Check the three main parameters
P06: Wheel diameter
The reference value is 10.0 inches.
For this compatible configuration with the corresponding 10-inch wheel assembly, check that P06 is 10.0. This setting supports speed calculation. Changing the wheel-size figure arbitrarily does not improve real performance.
If the wheel specification has changed, confirm the correct kit setting first.
P07: Speed-sensor magnet count
The reference value is 30 within a range of 1–100.
The value needs to match the fitted motor and display configuration. If your upgrade also replaces the motor, use the setting confirmed for that kit rather than copying another S5 scooter.
P15: Motor-drive signal percentage
The reference value is 100%.
Check the current value against the kit requirements. If the matched kit specifies 100 and the new display has a lower value, adjust it according to those instructions.
P15 is the drive-signal percentage for this menu. It is not the motor’s rated wattage, and setting it to 100 does not guarantee a fixed top speed.
Step 3: Confirm the remaining parameters
Swipe to compare all parameters →
| Parameter | Function | Reference values | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| P02 | Units | 0 = metric; 1 = imperial; reference: 0 | Confirm the unit on the main screen after selection. |
| P04 | Auto-sleep | 0 = off; 1–60 = minutes; reference: 10 | Choose a suitable idle timeout. |
| P06 | Wheel diameter | Reference: 10.0 inches | Match the fitted wheel assembly and kit instructions. |
| P07 | Speed-sensor magnet count | 1–100; reference: 30 | Match the motor and display configuration. |
| P09 | Start mode | 0 = zero start; 1 = kick start; reference: 1 | Setting 1 requires a push-off before motor engagement. |
| P12 | Initial response | 0 = weak; 5 = strong; reference: 5 | The reference value is not a requirement to use 5 during initial checks. |
| P15 | Drive-signal percentage | Reference: 100% | Follow the matched kit requirements. |
| P16 | Cruise control | 0 = off; 1 = on; reference: 0 | Keep it off during initial checks. Do not copy the Y8S off value of 2. |
| P99 | Factory reset | Reset function | A reset is not required for this parameter check. |
A higher P12 produces a stronger initial response. A gentler setting can help with the first check; adjust further only after assessing the response. P09 controls how the motor starts, while P12 controls the strength of the initial response.
This table follows the compatible upgrade display described here. It is not a universal table for all original S5 displays.
Step 4: Allow auto-save, then recheck
This compatible display saves changes automatically after a few seconds. After adjusting an item, let it save and turn the scooter back on to check it. To adjust another item, reopen the menu and repeat the same sequence.
Allow saving to finish, turn the scooter back on and revisit P06, P07 and P15. Confirm the values were retained, then check the start mode and cruise status.
Make a low-speed check in an open area where the modified configuration is permitted. Confirm normal display operation, starting response and braking. Do not use a top-speed run as the first check.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the throttle not start the scooter from a standstill with P09 = 1?
For this compatible display, 1 selects kick start. Push off first, then operate the scooter as instructed. If it still does not work normally, contact support.
Does P12 have to be 5?
No. The reference value is 5 for a stronger initial response. Choose an appropriate response; completing the post-upgrade setup does not require setting it to maximum.
Why does P16 use a different off value from the Y8S?
The two setups use different displays. This S5-series display uses 0 for off and 1 for on; the compatible Y8S display uses 2 for off and 1 for on. Follow the instructions for the installed display.
If P15 is already 100, should I reset the display?
Record the current settings and contact support first. P99 resets the configuration and should not be a routine installation step. Check the matched kit and describe the actual symptom instead.
When contacting JOYOR support, provide the full model name, kit order information, a display photo and the current settings so the team can identify the correct version.
