A repeating scrape or constant rubbing sound usually comes from brake-cable tension, an off-centre caliper or a slightly bent brake disc. Follow the checks below in order and make only small adjustments.

Quick diagnosis

Identify the cause of the noise

Noise after folding the handlebar The mechanical brake cable may be bent or pulled too tight.
One scrape per wheel rotation The brake disc probably has one locally bent section.
Continuous rubbing The brake caliper may not be centred over the disc.

Safety: Power off the scooter and support it securely before spinning the wheel. Never apply lubricant to the brake disc or pads. Replace a cracked, loose or severely bent disc instead of trying to straighten it.

Step-by-step

Fix the disc brake rubbing

Step 01

Check the handlebar and brake cable

Raise and lock the handlebar in its normal riding position. Check that the mechanical brake cable follows a smooth curve and is not stretched or sharply bent.

Spin the wheel. If the noise disappears, cable tension caused by the handlebar position was the likely problem.

Step 02

Locate the rubbing point

Slowly rotate the wheel while looking through the brake caliper. Watch the gap between the disc and each brake pad.

  • A repeating scrape at the same point indicates a local bend in the disc.
  • Contact along most of the rotation indicates an off-centre caliper.

Step 2: Spin the wheel and identify where the disc touches a pad.

Step 03

Gently straighten the bent section

Place a rotor truing tool—or the clean jaws of an adjustable wrench—over the bent area. Apply very light pressure in the opposite direction of the bend.

Remove the tool, spin the wheel and check again. Repeat with small corrections until the disc no longer touches the pad.

Step 3: Make several small corrections rather than one hard bend.

Step 04

Centre the caliper and test the brake

Loosen the caliper mounting bolts just enough for the caliper to move. Squeeze and hold the brake lever, then tighten the bolts evenly while the pads hold the disc centred.

Release the lever and spin the wheel. Confirm that it turns freely and that the brake stops the wheel smoothly.

Step 4: Centre the caliper, tighten the bolts and complete a final test.

Final check

Confirm the brake is safe

  • The wheel spins freely without a repeating scrape.
  • The brake disc passes between the pads without contact.
  • The caliper bolts are secure.
  • The brake lever feels firm and returns normally.

Stop riding and seek professional service if the disc is cracked or severely bent, braking feels weak, a fastener cannot be secured, or the noise returns immediately.
