Restore weak braking in the right order
If the brake feels soft, has little resistance or no longer slows the scooter effectively, begin with cable tension. Remove the caliper only when the accessible adjustment does not solve the problem.
- Brake lever feels unusually soft
- Stopping power has gradually decreased
- Tightening the visible cable adjuster did not help
One tool, careful setup
Use the correct size to avoid damaging the caliper mounting and adjustment screws.
- Power off the scooter and place it on stable support.
- Keep fingers, oil and lubricant away from the disc and brake pads.
- Note the caliper position before removing it so it can be reinstalled correctly.
- Do not press unrelated display or control buttons while working.
Make the smallest effective adjustment
Test after every level. Continue only if braking is still weak.
Tighten the brake cable
Locate the accessible cable fixing screw or tension adjuster. Make a small adjustment to increase cable tension, then squeeze the brake lever several times.
Do not over-tighten the cable. The wheel still needs to rotate freely when the lever is released.

Remove the caliper to reach the hidden adjuster
If the internal adjustment screw is blocked by the wheel or frame, do not force the Allen key into the narrow gap.
- Locate the screws securing the brake caliper to its bracket.
- Loosen and remove the mounting screws.
- Lift the caliper away carefully without pulling or damaging the brake cable.

Adjust the internal screw and reinstall the caliper
With the caliper in a clear working position, use the 6 mm Allen key to make a small adjustment to the internal brake screw.
Return the caliper to its original position, reinstall the mounting screws and tighten them securely. Confirm that the caliper is correctly positioned before testing the brake.

Did braking performance improve?
Stop adjusting
Confirm that every caliper fastener is secure and that the wheel rotates without brake drag. Then complete a slow braking test in a clear area.
The pads may be worn out
If cable and internal adjustments make no meaningful difference, the brake pads may be excessively worn and should be replaced with compatible parts.
Test the brake at walking speed first. The lever should provide clear resistance, the scooter should stop consistently, and the wheel should rotate freely after the lever is released. Stop riding and seek professional help if braking remains weak or any component cannot be secured correctly.
Brake adjustment FAQ
Why not remove the caliper immediately?
Many weak-braking problems can be improved through the accessible cable adjuster. Starting there avoids unnecessary disassembly.
What if the adjustment screw is difficult to reach?
Remove the caliper from its mounting bracket first. Do not force the Allen key into a restricted space or operate it at an extreme angle.
How do I know the brake pads need replacing?
If correct cable tension and internal adjustment do not restore meaningful braking performance, the pads may be excessively worn. Replace them or have the brake inspected.
Does this guide apply to hydraulic brakes?
No. This procedure is for the cable-operated mechanical brake shown in the JOYOR S5 video. Hydraulic systems require a different service process.
